My favorite campus life memories are: Diving Uli's ‘67 Mercedes into the pole in the Building 4 garage. Not really the favorite one, but it just came to mind.
My most memorable memory of working for Microsoft: Making stuff happen, having so much fun early on, and finally getting to the board room in Building 8.

When I left Microsoft, I went off to work at: Vodafone, where I worked on the Vodafone 360 Platform for smartphones and services. Then I worked as a managing director in the UK for Scanbuy, establishing Scanbuy’s UK business development and sales office for mobile commerce. Then I was a consultant for FirstNet’s Advisory Board on the FirstNet public safety LTE network. I did work with Broadband Portugal and Belgium — wireless local loop at Band 42/43.
I now live in: Alameda, California

At Microsoft, I was: An industry manager, product manager, worked in biz dev and M&A.

My favorite campus life memories are: Exploring tree house conference rooms. Also, heading to the Commons for lunch, which was/is a convergence of so many nationalities and personas.
My most memorable memory of working for Microsoft: So many memories... A favorite was sitting alongside Satya a few days after he'd become CEO, where he asked me to share perspective on challenges for an acquisition we were considering. It was at this point that I realized Microsoft was at a unique pivot point.
What my Microsoft alumni colleagues probably remember most about me: Outgoing energy and passion for embracing Microsoft's mission to empower individuals and organizations on the planet to achieve more. Also, celebrating others’ successes and challenges while always learning.

At Microsoft, I was: A technical account manager and service delivery manager.
While at Microsoft, I worked in: Edmonton, Canada office.
When I left Microsoft, I went off to: Become and IT manager and entrepreneur.
Since leaving Microsoft, I: Launched a side-gig, Managed IT Service Provider, to bring enterprise-class business relationship management to the SMB sector. My full-time employment is a service manager of Global Core Infrastructure and Datacenter for Finning International, the largest Caterpillar dealer.
I now live in: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Currently, I am: employment is a service manager of Global Core Infrastructure and Datacenter for Finning International.
My favorite thing about working at Microsoft: Was my team and TechReady.
My favorite memory of my time at Microsoft: Was participating in the first Ready in Las Vegas, and winning D7 Sub of the Year a couple of times.
I learned this lesson at Microsoft, and I still use it today: Be customer obsessed, and respectfully impatient to drive desired customer outcomes.

My favorite campus life memory: Alex St. John invited my boss and I to visit his group late at night, shortly before the original launch of DirectX in 1995. Amazing to see people working late, sleeping bags in offices, and Alex paid to have dinner catered from Seattle.
My most memorable memory of working for Microsoft: Working on ClearType and interacting with Bill Gates about it a few times.
What my Microsoft alumni colleagues probably remember most about me: Nonuniform sampling. That will make sense to my old colleagues. (Haha.)
When I left Microsoft, I went off to: Write books about history of space exploration. I recently published my first book, “Bossart: America's Forgotten Rocket Scientist.” I've been researching a second book on the Soviet exploration of the planet Venus.

My most memorable memory of working for Microsoft: Winning Best in Class for 2010 Exhibition of Excellence Awards (Best One Man Band) division at Tech Ready 2010 for my work on the Support Debugging Tool for Microsoft Dynamics GP. Sadly I could not get the award in person.
What my Microsoft alumni colleagues probably remember most about me: Always asking why do we do things this way.
When I left Microsoft, I went off to: Become a ski instructor.
Since leaving Microsoft, I: Set up my own life coaching retreat company, and volunteered for seven charities all specializing in helping vulnerable kids. I now work as the executive director for a charity that helps children with disabilities who have been abandoned in China. After leaving the UK, I lived in Charleston, South Carolina; Provence, France; and Vancouver BC.
I now live in: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Currently, I am: Running International China Concern Canada — a charity that helps children with disabilities in China.

At Microsoft, I: Functioned as principal architect and lead software engineer, developing Windows and Office.
While at Microsoft, I worked in: Redmond and New York.
My favorite campus life memories are: When I started to work at Microsoft, MS-DOS was the major product. Microsoft had just introduced the Windows operating system. The Microsoft Office suite of applications had not been created. We, the software architects and engineers at Redmond, worked together and inspired each other. We had awesome goals in front of us. We had to put a computer in every desk and in every home. We had to bring information at the fingertips of the users. We knew we were changing the world with technology. All these are beautiful memories!
My most memorable memory of working for Microsoft: I have many memorable memories working for Microsoft. Shipping the very first version of Microsoft Office is probably the most memorable of these memories.
What my Microsoft alumni colleagues probably remember most about me: During my professional career, I have received many awards from Microsoft for innovation and product development. I have built strategic partnerships between Microsoft and other leading organizations. I have enabled these organizations to achieve the Gold Partner status with Microsoft. I have been recognized by Microsoft for contributing energy and talent towards the overall success of Microsoft and for enabling Microsoft to lead the industry. My Microsoft colleagues remember me as a talented and hard-working professional. They hold me in high regard for my outstanding contributions to Microsoft.
When I left Microsoft, I went off to: I worked in directorial capacities with global finance companies.
Since leaving Microsoft: From 2004 to 2011, I worked in directorial capacities with Citadel, Bloomberg and UBS. I directed the development of strategic software applications for finance. During this time, I created the architecture for and directed the development of the widely used Bloomberg Valuation Service (BVAL) that provides credible, transparent and defensible prices for a broad spectrum of financial instruments including derivatives and structured notes. I built BVAL on the IBM AIX platform.
After my success in the finance industry, I focused on transforming the space management and retail industries. I functioned as the Head of Software Development for Icon Parking Systems (Icon). Icon operates more than 300 parking locations in Manhattan and its surrounding areas. I transitioned Icon’s business from VAX mainframe to a hybrid cloud environment. I directed the development of the IconParkingSystems.com site. This website enables customers to sign up for monthly, daily and hourly parking at Icon’s parking lots.
I now live in: Manhasset, New York
Currently, I am: Functioning as a senior executive, management consultant and entrepreneur.
My favorite benefit of being a Microsoft Alumni Network member is: My favorite benefit is being able to connect with the alumni network.

My most memorable memory of working for Microsoft: Being empowered to design the flexible working program.
What my Microsoft alumni colleagues probably remember most about me: Loving Gadgets and Breakdancing. Also, being able to solve the unsolvable problems.
When I left Microsoft, I went off to: After being made redundant, I went back to my consulting business I had before Microsoft.
Since leaving Microsoft, I: : After leaving Microsoft, I restarted the consulting business I already had as Winthrop Development Consultants and obtained the rights to some of the pet development projects I wrote while an employee. These were renamed, updated and released. I have been updating these products, creating new products as addons to Microsoft Dynamics GP as well as selling development consulting hours. It is great being my own boss and setting my own goals and deadlines.
I now live in: Perth, Western Australia.
Currently, I am: Still working as Winthrop Development Consultants (http://WinthropDC.com), attending conferences as a presenter and exhibitor. At Microsoft, I was: Building speech products in the AI Perception and Mixed Reality orgs.
While at Microsoft, I worked in: Sunnyvale, California.
When I left Microsoft, I went off to: Pursue an MBA at the London Business School.
Since leaving Microsoft, I: Finished my MBA, launched a 200 volunteer strong COVID support group that helped support people and SME's affected by COVID. I also am working as a volunteer vaccinator and am in training to be a volunteer Emergency Ambulance Crew member.
I now live in: London, UK
Currently, I am: A technical product manager at TrueLayer.
My favorite thing about working at Microsoft: The sheer scale of things. Being able to build products that are used by millions of users across the world!
My favorite memory of my time at Microsoft: I have several! One was serving as a VPAL for the Give campaign and helping raise money for non-profits and charities we supported. Another was testing a profanity detection service by playing Sea of Thieves and having a senior architect shout profanities at you.
I learned this lesson at Microsoft, and I still use it today: Build for scale and build it right. Also, I learned the importance of empathy-driven development and having empathetic leaders. Thank you, Satya.

My favorite campus life memories are: I loved hiking the trails through the trees on campus.
My most memorable memory of working for Microsoft: There is an incredibly diverse population of employees from around the world at Microsoft. The different cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives create a very powerful synergy to the company.
What my Microsoft alumni colleagues probably remember most about me: Saying please and thank you.
When I left Microsoft, I went off to: I am a senior security engineer doing FIPS 140-2 validations at UL Verification Services Inc.
Since leaving Microsoft, I: There has been a lot more travel to visit my family around the U.S. and to visit UL customers onsite around the world. Additionally, I work from home and have a 15-second commute to my office.
I now live in: Issaquah, Washington
Currently, I am: I'm a volunteer at the American Red Cross and National MS Society fundraisers. My hobbies include amateur radio and playing a Moog synthesizer.
