General Questions

Who is eligible?
Membership to the Microsoft Alumni Network is open to former Microsoft employees who worked on a regular full-time or part-time basis and left the company in good standing. 

What are membership dues?
Starting April 5th, 2016, Microsoft alumni can sign up for a 12-month membership beginning on the date you enroll or extending from your current expiration date. Memberships are priced as follows:

  • 1 year Premium: $99
  • 1 year International: $49

Refunds are only given within 30 days of new membership activation and only if benefits have not been accessed and/or utilized.

How do I find my MS employee ID#?
To find your MS employee ID, please contact Microsoft Benefits via email or (425) 706-8853.

I can no longer log onto the website with the information that I've used in the past.
The network recently upgraded to a new site at the beginning of April, which is why you are having issues logging in with your old password and email. With this new site, in order to keep our member information as secure as possible we did not bring over any old member login passwords. Because of this you are required to login and create a new password for the site. You can log on to our new website here.

What if I have trouble accessing the Microsoft Alumni website?

  • Verify that your browser accepts cookies from http://www.microsoftalumni.com/.
  • Verify that your pop-up blocker is turned off or at least allows pop-ups from microsoftalumni.com.
  • Verify that you have the latest updates for your browser.

How can I reset my password?
To reset your password, please select the “Reset My Password” link on the login page.


You will then be sent an email with a link to reset.


If you do not see the email come through within 30 minutes, please check your Spam folder. If it’s still not there, you may have a different address associated with your Microsoft Alumni Network account. Try the Reset Password function again using one of your other email addresses.

Can I remain a member of the Microsoft Alumni Network if I return to Microsoft as a regular, part-time or full-time employee?
Yes, you can be an alumni member while working as a ‘blue badge’ employee at Microsoft. If you return to Microsoft in a regular part-time or full-time capacity, please email us at info@microsoftalumni.com so we can update your profile.

What is your relationship with Microsoft Corporation?
We have a close working relationship with Microsoft and are pleased to help continue the culture of giving with Microsoft alumni. Several Microsoft leadership level executives are supporting the governance of the Microsoft Alumni Network.

How can I get involved? 
There are many different ways to get involved! We would love to hear from you if you are interested in hosting events in your area, have a topic to share with other alumni, or if you are a business and would like to be included in our business directory. Please email us at info@microsoftalumni.com.

  • Send us feedback. We are a work in progress. Perhaps some things didn't work just right. Let us know. We will continue to grow, evolve and improve with your help.

How can I post my member business on the Microsoft Alumni website? 
All Premium members are eligible to post their business information on our site!

Company Store 

My MSA account information is not recognized by the Company Store. How do I log in?
Your MSA account information alone won't work for the Company Store. You'll need to create an account specific to the Microsoft Company Store using your email address and MSA number. Follow the instructions outlined under the question below.

How do I create an account for the Company Store?
Your alumni benefit for the Company Store will be activated within three business days after you receive your membership confirmation email. You can then create and access your alumni store account by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Microsoft Online Company Store website
  2. Enter your email address and click on the arrow

  3. Select Microsoft Alumni

  4. Click Create New Account Now

  5. Fill in your Alumni Number and Last Name, and then click Next

  6. Fill out the form to register your Alumni information

    Note: For security purposes, the billing name and address you enter upon registration must match the billing information for any credit cards that you use to make purchases at the Microsoft Company Store.

How do I check my balance at the Company Store?
You can check your balance at any time by logging into the Company Store. Your Purchase Balance appears under your account name (upper right corner):


Do I need a Microsoft Alumni Network ID card to shop at the company store?
No, all members now have a virtual ID card that is always available on the website. When shopping in person at a Microsoft Company Store, you will need to show your virtual ID on your phone. To find your virtual ID, log on to the website. You should see account information listing your name, membership level, and MSA ID number.

A Microsoft Alumni Network ID is not the same as your Microsoft Employee ID or alias. The Microsoft Alumni Network ID is linked to your membership status, and the Company Store will check to make sure you are an active paid member before you are able to complete a purchase online or at a physical location

How do I show my digital membership card at the Company Store?
Alumni members can display their digital membership card by signing into the Alumni website on their smart phones and accessing the cards here.

Your digital card will look something like the image below. Company store staff will check that the Membership Level says either Premium or International. Additionally, they will confirm that the Next Renewal date is sometime in the future.

 

If Membership Level is ”Free“ and/or Next Renewal Date is blank or in the past, you will need to take further action to access the physical store — either renew your membership or contact us to troubleshoot for you. Please check this before you head to the store.

When will my Company Store balance reset?
It takes up to four business days for your Company Store balance to reset if your membership has lapsed. We do not have a way to expedite this process. If your balance has not reset within a week, please confirm you are using your Microsoft Alumni Network ID to access the store (not your MSFT Alias or Employee #), and that your membership status on our site shows as Premium or International before contacting the Company Store directly by email or (888) 672-1355.

What is the difference between Microsoft Company Store and the eCompany Store? 
The Microsoft Company Store refers to the on-campus retail stores and online store that offer Microsoft hardware, software and merchandise at discounted employee prices. Alumni in the U.S. can also order Company Store merchandise online after setting up an account on the Online Company Store here.

Why can’t I see hardware or software when I login to the eCompany Store?
You will need to log out and log in again. Go to the online ordering tool’s homepage and click on "First time here" Employee, Intern or Alumni. Double check you’ve selected Microsoft Alumni. You will then have to set up a password in Microsoft’s system.

How do I contact the Company Store?
Contact the company store at by  email or (888) 672-1355.

The eCompany Store’s digital download service is the most convenient way for me to buy software. I recently upgraded my computer and need to move the software to my new laptop, but can’t find my product key. Where do I find it?
Log in to your eCompany Store account using the MSA login and password used to register your account. In the upper right corner, click on your name, and select Digital Locker from the drop down menu. Your digital download products will be visible to you. If not, expand your search by selecting a new date range from the drop down menu.

 



Retail Store

What are the main differences between the Microsoft Company Store, Microsoft Online Store and the Microsoft Retail Store?
The primary differences are in the types of Microsoft products offered, availability of products, discount levels and shipping. More often than not, the Microsoft Retail Store may have the best availability of products, but market demand may impact availability. The Microsoft Online Store is more convenient, but does not offer broad product discounts. The Microsoft Company Store may offer the best price, but inventory is minimal and may lag market availability.

Microsoft Retail Store: For Microsoft Alumni Network paid members only.

  • 10% in-store discount on Surface hardware (except Surface Studio)
  • 5% in-store discount on hardware and accessories
  • 10% in-store discount on software products
  • Typically has new products when released and a broad selection
  • Provides personal experience including sales, services and support

Microsoft Company Store (both in-person and online eCompany Store): For Microsoft Alumni Network paid members only.

  • Not international shipping
  • Most likely the best available price on software products
  • Products available after they are released, with a limited hardware selection (typically Xbox, keyboards, mouse)
  • Focused on consumer/end user products

Microsoft Online Store: (no Alumni-specific discount but use our referral link and help us do social good)

  • No alumni discounts — a percentage of the purchases made using the unique website link from the Microsoft Alumni Network website go towards funding our non-profit giving initiatives
  • No international shipping
  • Free domestic shipping
  • Has new Microsoft products as soon as they are released and carries a broad selection

What discounts can I expect in the physical Microsoft Retail Stores?
The discounts are only available at the Microsoft Retail Stores (physical locations). You will receive 10% discount on Surface hardware (except Surface Studio), 5% discount on other hardware and accessories, and 10% on software products.

Can I get these discounts at the Microsoft Online Store?
No, the discounts are not available online. However, watch for the occasional special promotion available for alumni offered online.

Which Microsoft Retail Stores can I purchase from and where are they located?
Alumni can purchase at all physical stores, which are located in the US, Puerto Rico, Canada & Australia. Find locations near you here.

Do I need to be a “premium” member to buy from the Microsoft Store (retail and online)?
Yes, you must be a current paid Premium or International member to receive the retail discount and special online promotions.

How does the Microsoft Retail Stores validate that I am an eligible alumni?
You will need to show current MSA credentials and photo ID in the retail stores. From your mobile device, log into the MSA webpage with your premium-level member credentials. Take a screen shot of your Member ID#, Membership Level and Active Through Date. Show these credentials to your sales representative in-store. Please note: you must be an active member at time of purchase and your photo ID is required.

Alternatively, you can log into the MSA website from a PC in the store to show active credentials.

Do I need to sign in to shop at the Microsoft Online Store?
Yes, you will need to sign into the MSA website with your premium membership user name and password, then access the Microsoft Online Store through the link on our Microsoft Alumni website.

Is there a spending limit at the Microsoft Stores (retail or online) like there is at the Microsoft Company Store?
No, there is not a spending limit at the Microsoft Stores (retail or online).

Can I stack the alumni discount on top of other discounts, like sale items, special promotions, or student discount?
No, only one discount at a time can be applied to a purchase. You are not allowed to “stack” discounts.

Can I buy from the Microsoft Online Store directly without entering the via the Alumni Website?
You can, however when you enter the Microsoft Online Store through the Alumni Network, we receive a commission on your purchase. These funds earned through your purchases actually support our non-profit giving initiatives. We thank you for helping us do social good.

How does MSA Philanthropy work?
The Microsoft Alumni Network is a non-profit. Our excess funds each year go into a “philanthropic fund” that is given back to non-profits through our partnerhsip with the Seattle Foundation. Please visit our Give page for more information about we make a difference for others.


Office 365 Home

How do I get my Office 365 Home activation code?
To receive your activation code:

  1. Sign in to your MSA account
  2. Once you have signed in, click the green Activate Your Benefits button on the right side of the page
  3. Go to the Office 365 Home section of the page, and click the Fill Out This Form link to receive your activation code

Note: The activation code will be sent to your email address with a special one-time link to access Microsoft Connect portal where you'll be able to retrieve your key.

How do I access my Office 365 Home key?
Once you’ve requested your Office 365 Home key, we’ll send you an email with a special one-time link to access Microsoft Connect portal where you will be able to retrieve your key. Note: If you have used Microsoft Connect portal before go straight to step 4.

Step 1: Begin the process by signing in here with your Microsoft account:

Step 2: After signing in, cut and paste your special link into your browser. This will take you to the Microsoft Connect portal registration page:

Step 3: You will need to create a profile and complete registration.

Step 4: When you complete your registration you will be taken here. Simply select the product key tab on the left side of the grey menu bar. Note: If you see a different page when you reach this step, clear your browser history and cookies, restart your browser and then click the original link at the top of this mail again.

Step 5: You will see this:

Step 6: Click Request New Product Key and you will see this:

Step 7: Click Get Key and your key will be revealed.

I’ve got my Office 365 Home product key. Now what do I do with it?
Once you've received your product key, you'll need to:

  1. Sign in to your Office 365 page:

  2. On your Office 365 Home page, click on Manage Account:

  3. On the Services & subscriptions page, click on Renew:

  4. Click on the “If you have a product key...“ option and you will be guided to a page where you can enter your key


I've already purchased an Office 365 Home subscription. Will I be able to use the one associated with my Microsoft Alumni Network profile?
It is not possible to have two installations or multiple subscriptions of Office 365 Home tied to one account. What you are able to do is to extend the subscription of Office 365 Home with your new subscription.  To check the expiration date of a current Office 365 subscription go here.

What happens if my Office 365 Home subscription ends and I have not obtained a new license?
If auto-renew is not enabled for your subscription, as the expiration date approaches, you will receive notifications in the Office applications and via email, alerting you to the upcoming expiration. If you choose to let your subscription expire, the Office software applications enter read-only mode, which means that you can view or print existing documents, but you can’t edit them or create new ones. To return to full Office functionality, you can purchase a new version of Office by visiting www.office.com/myaccount. You could also use Office Online for free for basic editing.


Passport Unlimited

What is the Microsoft Alumni Network Passport Corporate program?
The Microsoft Alumni Network Passport Corporate program is managed by Passport Unlimited and is designed to connect you with exclusive savings at many local and national vendors both online and around town. Enjoy!

How do I get my Passport Unlimited activation code?
To receive your activation code:

  1. Sign in to your MSA account
  2. Once you have signed in, click the green Activate Your Benefits button on the right side of the page
  3. Go to the Passport Unlimited section of the page, and click the Fill Out This Form link to receive your activation code

Note The activation code will be sent to your email address.

I’ve received my Passport activation code. How do I sign up for my digital Passport card?
First, sign up on Passport's website. You’ll see a screen that looks like this:

After you enter your email, you’ll see a page where you’ll be able to use your activation code to request a mobile Passport card:

Once you’ve entered your email and activation code, you’ll see a screen indicating that you’ve successfully registered your card:

 

You will also recieve a confirmation email from support@passportunlimited.com with your card number:

I lost my physical Passport card for the 2015-16 year. Can I get a replacement?
We are no longer able to provide replacements for lost cards. On July 1, 2016 when you renew your membership you will be able to apply for the new digital Passport program here.

How can I access my Passport card?
As of June 1st, all Microsoft Alumni Premium Members will have the option to access all the benefits Passport has to offer using Passport’s new digital membership program. Effective April 30th, MSA will no longer be shipping or replacing physical Passport cards. You can now request your Passport privileges through your MSA account.

For more information on activating your Passport Unlimited benefit:

  1. Sign in to your MSA account
  2. Once you have signed in, click the green Activate Your Benefits button on the right side of the page
  3. Go to the Passport Unlimited section of the page, and follow the instructions to receive your activation code and sign up for your membership

Once you’ve completed this process, you’ll be able to access savings through the Passport website. Additionally, you’ll want to download the app for Passport’s new mobile membership card for accessing the program when you’re not at your computer.

How do I use the mobile Passport membership?
Once you have received your new mobile membership number via the Microsoft Alumni Network Passport Corporate website, please download the Passport Mobile app on your smartphone then log in with your membership number and work email used during registration. To download the Passport Mobile app, simply visit your phone’s marketplace and search for ”Passport Mobile“. The Passport Mobile app is currently available for iOS, Android and Windows Phone devices. Note: if you are using an iPad, you’ll need to select the filter for iPhone apps in order to find the app.

If you have previously downloaded the Passport Mobile app on your device, please make sure the app has been updated to the latest version.

I’m all signed into the app with my mobile Passport membership credentials. What now?
When you are at a location that accepts your Microsoft Alumni Network Passport membership, there are a variety of ways to access and use your mobile membership:

  • Simply swipe (iPhone, Android) or tap-and-hold (Windows Phone) the appropriate listing within the Passport Mobile app to expose the Redeem option. Tap Redeem to display your mobile membership ‘card’ or generate a redemption code at participating Passport Dining restaurant locations.
  • Tap a listing to view the Details of a business’ participation. Tap Use My Card Here to display your mobile membership ‘card’ or generate a redemption code at participating Passport Dining restaurant locations.
  • Tap Use My Card from the app Menu to view the nearest businesses who accept your mobile membership. Tap Confirm to display the mobile membership ‘card’ for the nearest location or Select Other to view additional locations.

At Passport Dining restaurants, the app will generate a redemption code. The redemption code and mobile membership ‘card’ number shown should be written at the top of your receipt prior to payment. At local merchants, the app will display a live image of your digital ‘card’ which should be presented to the merchant at the time of purchase.

Can my spouse, partner or dependents use my mobile Passport membership?
Yes! Your spouse, partner or dependents may use your mobile Passport membership. They will need to setup the Passport Mobile app on their phones. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Download the Passport Mobile app from your phone’s marketplace
    The Passport Mobile app is currently available for iOS, Android and Windows Phone devices.

    Note: If you are using an iPad, you’ll need to select the filter for iPhone apps in order to find the app.

    If you have previously downloaded the Passport Mobile app on your device, please make sure the app has been updated to the latest version.

  2. Have your spouse/partner/dependents log in with your passport membership number (should look like MSA-30-XXXX) and use the email you used to register for the passport benefit. You may have up to 3 devices active at one time for a given account.

What if I want to load the mobile membership on more than three devices?
The mobile membership is limited to three devices. Loading the membership on additional devices will automatically disable all but the three most recent devices.

What if I have issues using the mobile Passport membership?
If there’s an issue blocking your use of the mobile membership or if you have any further questions on how to use your mobile membership, please call Passport’s Member Relations team at (800)410-4211 or email them at support@passportunlimited.com. Passport’s Member Relations team will be able to help troubleshoot any issues that you may be experiencing.

Your ideas and input are welcome! To suggest a new vendor, please complete our Passport’s vendor suggestion form to make a recommendation.

  • Browse and shop for both on-exchange Major Medical and Medicare plans.

How do I sign up for this insurance?

What is the difference between eHealth and GoHealth and why would I use one versus the other?
These are similar services but depending on where you live and what your situation is, one might present better pricing than the other. Our goal is to present options so that our members have choices.

What is the difference between them and the Affordable Health Care Act ("Obamacare") exchanges?
These services can help people navigate through options on the exchanges. Not everyone is willing to filter through the exchanges and having a person to call can be helpful.

Why are the Affordable Health Care Act exchanges like Washington Healthfinder not listed on the MSA web site but these two are?
Our members are all over the US. Rather than take space to list all the exchanges by state, we respect that our members will search for this choice if they want to go there.

Who is Gallagher Benefit Advocates and how do they relate to eHealth and GoHealth?
Gallagher is the local (Washington state) broker who has handled our group plan for many years. They are the front line for our members who need to move out of that plan. They are also available to consult with other members who may not be getting what they need from GoHealth.  You can contact them direct, Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Pacific Time at (800) 542-3737 or email BAC.MicrosoftAlumni@ajg.com.  Gallagher currently supports a few remaining individual coverage options for Dental, Prescription and Vision coverage. What happened to the Microsoft Alumni Foundation?
The Microsoft Alumni Foundation has joined together with the Microsoft Alumni Network. Philanthropy is now a program under the umbrella of the Network. Click here to learn more about our Philanthropy programs.

Who provides leadership for the Foundation?
The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity with an independent Board of Directors, some of whom also serve on the Network Board. You can learn about our board members here and about our philanthropic programs here.

What is the Microsoft Alumni Foundations relationship with the Gates Foundation?
The Gates Foundation is an excellent example of a nonprofit organization started by Microsoft alumni working to bring solutions to some of society’s toughest challenges both at home and abroad — improved health care and improved education. How do I get information regarding my MS ID#, Microsoft benefits, stock options, Cobra or copies of my Microsoft W-2?
